Day 8

Good morning, and welcome to Week #2 of the rest of your life.


Okay, that's corny. So far, so good though. I made it through a week and all the salad and soup hasn't yet killed me.


Yesterday was pretty uneventful. I had lunch at Bossa Nova with my great friend Rey and his mom, and had little difficulty finding a salad to eat that didn't make me seem like a bird while at the same time taking care of my need to eat healthy. Regarding dinner, I wasn't sure what I was going to have, but then (mindlessly, actually) sucked down the leftover half-sandwich from Roman's while on the phone and from there wasn't hungry. It wasn't the most satisfying dinner ever, but it tasted pretty good, and was probably not the worst thing I could have eaten.


I also experimented with making a shake for breakfast. Ice, non-fat Vanilla yougurt, frozen blueberries, and a splash of orange juice. It wasn't bad, but I think I used too much ice so I got a head rush. It did deal with my morning hunger pangs though.


Two odd temptations yesterday. A had helped a neighbor when her automatic wheelchair broke down, and she thanked me with a big bar of chocolate. I sniffed that thing pretty liberally, though I didn't eat it. I was going to throw it away, but then decided to keep it. Normal human beings can have a chocolate bar in their cabinets without devouring the entire thing. So I'll save it for company.


The other thing that happened was, on my walk with Tessie this afternoon, I walked right past a Kentucky Fried Chicken. Holy shit did that smell good. I think I probably put on a few ounces sniffing the grease right out of the air. I stared at the place longingly for a moment, then continued on my walk.


So that's the news. Today I hit the road for Vegas. I have decided that I will make another shake this morning, eat my leftover salad from lunch yesterday for lunch today, and then find something on the menu tonight that is palatable and also good for me. I might try a fish dish. Though I'll go with a shrimp dish if they have it. And I think I'm going to pick up baby carrots for the drive, since I'm so used to eating my way across the desert when I have driven to Vegas.


AND NO BUFFETS!!


Okay, some facts:


Day 7 food:


Shake (three tablespoon scoops of yougurt, spash of OJ, a bunch of blueberries, ice)

Onion tomato grilled shrimp feta cheese salad with vinagrette (from Bossa Nova)

Water (lots)

Half-sandwich (chicken cheese guac peppers onions from Roman's)

Water

Fruit punch (just a splash or two)


Daily weight: 270 lbs. (down 17)


Daily exercise: Again, not much... Grrr.


So that's it. I will post from Vegas tomorrow if the hotel has internet, if not, back on Wednesday!!

Oh, and one note: in the pic of me facing forward today, you can see the head of my dog licking my hand. She's been very supportive of this effort of mine (and she's benefited from longer walks!).
